Casey Stoner says his dominance of the 2011 MotoGP championship with Honda - and Valentino Rossi's struggles after replacing him at Ducati - have given him a credibility he never attained while riding for the Italian marque. Allmendinger hails ‘drive of his life’

AJ Allmendinger believes that he produced the best drive of his life to anchor Michael Shank Racing to victory at the Daytona 24 Hours. The NASCAR regular, who shared his Riley-Ford with Justin Wilson, Oswaldo Negri Jr and John Pew at the 50th anniversary running of the Florida enduro, was in contention for the win throughout the race. Allmendinger drove the final three hours of the race under constant pressure from Ryan Dalziel's pole-sitting Starworks Riley-Ford as the gap between the pair fluctuated between three and 11 seconds due to a combination of traffic and caution periods

Rémi Gaillard human speed camera

Do you love to hate speed cameras? We feel your pain. After all, no technology is foolproof, and we prefer our citations to come straight from a fellow human being. But what if the speed camera had a mind of its own? As in, a real brain inside its head?

Not sure where we're going with this? Allow us to explain. Rémi Gaillard, a French funny man famous for his hilarious YouTube stunts (real-life Mario Kart ring a bell?), decided to play dress-up a full nine months before Halloween. Flashes fire, antics ensue.

We suggest you stick around to the very end, as the exhibition reaches it final, perhaps inevitable, conclusion. See for yourself in the video after the break.

McLeod Wins Battle, Loses War

MADISON DOWN THE SERIES CHAMP AGAIN Just to add a little spice to the already-hot iRacing V8 Supercar Series finale, series points leader Madison Down was unable to front for the maximum points Monday Night Showdown at Road Atlanta due to pressing travel arrangements. While some would argue that it detracted from the event, leaving the series destiny at the mercy of an SOF points variable, it also meant that Mitchell McLeod and Rens Broekman, both trailing Down, would have a genuine shot at series victory. At the very least, the points gap would be minimal. Broekman drew first blood with pole position by a tenth of a second, which is a country mile in this series. McLeod put the Tatts.com Falcon on the front row. Mick Claridge made a [...]

Report: Car and Driver Lightning Lap is back, throws two trucks into the mix [w/video]

Car and Driver is back with its annual Lightning Lap roundup for a sixth year, with 20 of the world's best vehicles taking to Virginia International Raceway to lay down the quickest time around VIR's 4.1-mile Grand West Course.

Included in this year's running is a suitably diverse spread of sports cars and sedans, ranging from the lowly Volkswagen Jetta GLI to the formidable Porsche Panamera Turbo S - a difference of 350 horsepower and over $168,000. And, just to add a bit more spice to the festivities, C/D introduced a new class (LLT) to include two trucks in the running: the BMW X5 M and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

But what C/D gives, it taketh away. Gone is the LL5 class ($250,000 and up) and so are the LLU cars, like the Mosler MT900S, the current Lightning Lap champion. And we're perfectly okay with that. After all, we're more interested in how the Lotus Evora S hangs with the Porsche Cayman R and where the BMW 1 Series M Coupe stacks up against the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca - and not just for convoluted naming conventions. Check out a video after the break for a taste and then head over to C/D for the full story.

Hyundai: Lifetime Warranty for 2012 Sonata Hybrid Batteries; Ten-Speed Automatic Transmission in Development

iRacer Profile: Joni Hagner

It would come as no surprise if Finland’s Joni Hagner were to stop into his local tattoo parlor for some bow-tie “ink.”  After all, he’s pretty much a Chevrolet kind of guy when it comes to iRacing.  A fixture in the top ten of the Corvette class of the iRacing.com Prototype and GT Challenge (Fixed and Open), he’s got his first championship in sight heading into the final weekend of 2011 Season 4, holding a narrow edge on Fernando Pento in the Fixed Set-up series.  He’s also piloted his ‘Vette to the runner-up spot behind countryman Teemu Vuolle in the Open Set-up series. And Hagner is a very respectable P31 in Division 2 of the NASCAR Class A standings in, what else, a Chevrolet Impala. In truth, Hagner’s not so [...]

Hill: F1 will miss Barrichello

Damon Hill believes that Formula 1 will miss Rubens Barrichello if the Brazilian does not return to the grid after missing out on the Williams seat. Barrichello turns 40 this year and although he has always maintained his desire to continue to race in F1, with only one seat left open at HRT it is unlikely that he will be on the grid in 2012. Former rival Hill, who raced against Barrichello for seven seasons in F1, believes that he was a big part of the grand prix scene.

Ecclestone still confident over Bahrain

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says there are no doubts in his head that the Bahrain Grand Prix will take place this year - despite ongoing question marks about its future. With reports of continued political trouble still appearing in the media, there has been speculation that the event could face a repeat of the scenario 12 months ago when it had to be cancelled. But Ecclestone is adamant that the race, which is scheduled to take place on April 22, will go ahead because he does not see any issue with events going on in the Gulf state

Multi-Class racing comes to RSR

After much discussion, multi-class racing has finally been embraced by the Red Sox Racing League (RSR).  The change in format means that beginning in Season One of the RSR 2012 calendar, league members have the opportunity to participate in some of the most exciting online racing available.  The decision to include fixed setup multi-class racing wasn’t an easy one as league administrators had to struggle with the challenge of designing competitive setups for two different vehicles while ensuring their league points system could handle the new format.   RSR settled on two of the fastest cars in the iRacing stable for use in the multi-class events.  First up was the Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-01C as the Class A vehicle.  The Chevrolet Corvette C6R was chosen as the Class B [...]
